Oh, Mary…
Don't You Cry

Another in a series of one-of-a-kind figures inspired by the ‘slave narratives’ of the Federal Writer's Project. This piece illustrates a mother—afiled laborer—facing the inevitable… her daughter being taken to be sold and separated from her own love and protection forever. As her youngest runs to here for shelter, Mary raises her hands and voice in pleading—in vain—for compassion from her overseer.
